Interlude

I’ve had a few comments/questions regarding things I’ll just answer here. Yes, I’ve glossed over or completely skipped entire centuries and continents…and yes, there are reasons. First: I’m not going to talk about areas of the world that I don’t understand, because that would just be confusing. Second: a lot of the places that are sovereign with their own legal structure today, weren’t until the 19th or 20th centuries. Third: what we know about the past is changing all the time, and in many areas it’s incomplete. Lack of surviving evidence, lack of laws, lack of writings on the subject all cause our snapshots of the past to be lacking. The history of anti-gay laws is one of theses areas.

This blog series isn’t meant to be an all-encompassing in depth history…for some time periods and places that’s impossible, and for others I just don’t know enough to make a compelling argument for why. What this is meant to do is give a foundation for where these hate filled discriminatory laws (which is what anti-gay legislation is) came from, how they evolved, and why they still exist in the present day.

Having said that, however, I will be doing an Africa/India/Middle East post once I get past WWII. If there’s something you’re incredibly curious about that I’ve skipped over, email me and I’ll see if I can find enough to cobble together an answer…if I can’t I’ll point you in the right direction to find your answers.

The Stuff They Won't Include in Any Tourist Guide: The Real England

The Real England is a concise, direct, and not-so-gentle window into the depths of the leftovers of the world’s once greatest empire. It is told from the perspective of one lone (or not so lone) long term visitor. It informs one of the dregs of the country and helps to explain quaint British oddities such as the crack addicted chav.
